Medal Stand: Jim Bell, NBC Doing An Exemplary Job Despite Several Major Hurdles

Each day during the Winter Games, THE DAILY offers our take on the business performances of some of the people, sponsors, broadcasters and other entities around Sochi.

GOLD: JIM BELL -- The Exec Producer for NBC's Sochi coverage certainly has dealt with his share of curveballs through the first half of the Games -- Bob Costas' eye infection, Team USA struggling somewhat and, of course, Sochi's extremely difficult nine-hour time difference from the East Coast. But for the most part, NBC's coverage and production from Sochi has been stellar, keeping its focus on the competition and not getting slowed down by the challenges.

SILVER: BILL MAROLT -- The retiring CEO of U.S. Ski & Snowboard has devoted 18 years to the organization, and is leaving it in much better shape than it was when he started.

BRONZE: NBC'S RATINGS -- The nine-hour time difference has certainly been tough sledding for NBC during the first half of the Sochi Games. But its audience numbers are at least holding their own against the '06 Turin Games and winning primetime each night, proving that the Olympics are still largely appointment viewing in the U.S.

TIN: THE TIME ZONE -- The nine-hour difference between Sochi and the East Coast has certainly made for an awkward Olympic news cycle and viewing experience, even more so than the 12-hour time difference for Beijing six years ago. We are certainly looking forward to Rio, when the Games will fall more in line with U.S. time.
