Getting In The Way-Back Machine: MLBAM Reviving "RBI Baseball" Video Game

MLBAM last night announced it will be reviving the popular late ‘80s/early ‘90s video game franchise “RBI Baseball” for current and next generation gaming consoles and mobile. “RBI Baseball 14,” slated for release this spring, will be MLBAM’s first developed product for gaming consoles after several prior efforts for mobile and social gaming platforms. The revival of the “RBI Baseball” gaming franchise also means that baseball will be on Microsoft’s XBox One and XBox 360 this season, previously an uncertain prospect after the long-expected demise of 2K Sports’ “MLB 2K” series. The other licensed console game, Sony’s “MLB: The Show,” is a PlayStation exclusive. MLBAM has not yet disclosed an exact release date or projected retail price for the forthcoming “RBI Baseball 14.” The original “RBI Baseball” was the first console video game to be licensed by the MLBPA, allowing for real-world player names.
