Franchise Notes

After winning Sunday's game during a blizzard, the Eagles are thanking fans. Digital billboards throughout the city carried a thank you message to fans who braved the six inches of snow that fell during the Eagles' 34-20 victory over the Lions, and a similar ad ran in the Philadelphia Inquirer. A video from the team that sets the wintry game highlights to the tune of "Winter Wonderland" is on the team's social media channels -- Facebook, Twitter, Instagram -- and on FlyEaglesFly.com (Terry Lefton, Editor-At-Large).

GET 'EM WHILE THEY'RE YOUNG: SI.com's Tom Verducci reported the Braves do not have "major shopping items" during the Winter Meetings this year, but a source indicated that the team's "top priority is working out extensions with some of their young stars before spring training begins." One NL exec said, "Especially as they move into their new ballpark, they need to make sure their homegrown core is going to be there." Veducci noted the Braves have "nine players eligible for arbitration," including RF Jason Heyward, 1B Freddie Freeman and Ps Craig Kimbrel and Kris Medlen (SI.com, 12/9).

BANK OF THE BRONX: In N.Y., Mark Feinsand notes while the Yankees have spent $283M in new contracts this offseason for C Brian McCann, CF Jacoby Ellsbury and RF Carlos Beltran, that "doesn't mean they're close to finished," especially now that the plan to stay below the $189M threshold "appears to be a pipe dream." The Yankees could "find themselves" with another $200M-plus payrolls "once they figure out" several openings in the infield and in their rotation. One MLB exec said, "It sounds like there's still plenty of money for them to spend. They're still in on almost everybody" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 12/10).
