Facility Notes

In California, Adam Poulisse notes the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association and Legacy Connections yesterday "officially launched its fundraising campaign" for the Rose Bowl. Starting at $100, "anyone who has a fond memory of the Rose Bowl can etch it into the stadium's future with a brick that will be part of a 50-foot diameter mosaic of the tournament's iconic red rose on the plaza in front of gate A." Crews will "begin installing the first bricks in April." About 28,000 bricks "will make up the memory walkway." Legacy Connections Campaign Dir Andrea Van de Kamp said that "about 800 bricks have already been sold." Legacy is also "pursuing philanthropic sponsorships including naming opportunities for stadium tunnels, the Court of Champions and the new Pavilion" (PASADENA STAR-NEWS, 12/4).

HOME SHOPPING: VCU AD Ed McLaughlin said that the school is "close to completing fundraising for a basketball practice facility," but added that it is "exploring options for the site." McLaughlin yesterday said VCU is "looking at where the best place" is to build the $14-16M facility. He "wouldn't provide potential sites." McLaughlin also said that he is "not yet sure what the final figure will be" (RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH, 12/4).

CARBON FOOTPRINT: In New Jersey, James O'Neill reports the NFL and PSEG "have reached an agreement ensuring that every kilowatt of electricity used for the Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium and many game-related events will be offset by renewable energy credits that support New Jersey wind-power and solar projects." The agreement "covers all energy that will be used in the three weeks leading up to the Super Bowl on Feb. 2 and the week after at MetLife Stadium, as well as at the two Jersey City hotels that will be used by the Super Bowl teams" and the NFL's Super Bowl HQs hotel in mid-Manhattan (Bergen RECORD, 12/4).
