Facility Notes

In California, Jason Henry cited City of Industry officials as saying that the "first real groundwork on a site possibly slated for an NFL stadium may start as early as January." The city's former redevelopment agency "agreed to spend" $172M installing the "basic infrastructure when it leased the property" to Majestic Realty Chair & CEO Ed Roski. City of Industry City Manager Kevin Radecki said that the lease "requires the city to build the infrastructure, regardless of whether the stadium proceeds." Radecki added, "At a certain point, (the developer) will have to decide which direction they want to go." Roski's personal assistant said that he would "like to speak about the stadium project but could not until December" (SAN GABRIEL VALLEY TRIBUNE, 10/20).

TAKING A GAMBLE: In Ottawa, Mark Sutcliffe writes it is "hard to imagine that the city will change course" on allowing Senators Owner Eugene Melnyk to build a casino at the Canadian Tire Centre, but "perhaps Melnyk is still hoping the matter isn’t completely closed." Even if Melnyk "can't get council to reconsider its plans for gambling, there's a broader discussion between the team and the city that has to take place about the future of the Senators and their arena." Sutcliffe: "Could the city and the Senators work together to build a new arena in a more central location? If city hall can’t give Melnyk a casino, can it partner with him a development site that cannot only house a new stadium but create the additional revenue stream he says the Senators need to be sustainable?" (OTTAWA CITIZEN, 10/21).

TIGER RAG: The AP reported Clemson Univ. trustees are "starting the ball rolling to rebuild Littlejohn Coliseum" in time for the '16-17 basketball season. School trustees gave "pre-concept approval for the project on Friday, meaning the athletic department and boosters can commission further studies and start fund-raising." Clemson AD Dan Radakovich said that "rebuilding Littlejohn will cost" between $60-$80M (AP, 10/18).
