In Vancouver, Brian Morton reported Canucks C HENRIK and LW DANIEL SEDIN and their families on Saturday launched Sedin Corner, a 14-person suite at Rogers Arena that will "host throughout the hockey season charities and groups that support children’s health and education as well as family wellness." Guests of Sedin Corner "receive game tickets, parking passes, food and beverage" from Aramark, an in-game welcome and Sedin Corner and Canucks souvenirs (VANCOUVER SUN, 10/6).

OUT WITH THE OLD: In N.Y., Ben Strauss wrote ROY ADAMS in over 40 years "spent $400,000 on food, clothes, cash and a handful of cars for college athletes," but now "represents the twilight of a college sports booster." He "cherished his role as a benefactor" and is the "rare booster who crows about his largess." He said that NCAA rules have "tightened drastically" and added that players "have changed too." Adams: "Today you give a kid a Chevrolet, and he wants a Cadillac. You give them $1,000, they want two or three" (N.Y. TIMES, 10/5).

RAPPER'S DELIGHT: CBS’ “College Football Today” began its broadcast Saturday with a clip of the latest DirecTV ad featuring former NFLer ARCHIE MANNING and his sons, PEYTON and ELI. Archie Manning said, “Not my proudest moment.” CBS’ Tim Brando asked, “Are you performing in ‘Mama Mia’ later tonight on Broadway? I’d love to see you in that.” Brando then spoke about Manning being named to the College Football Playoff selection committee and Manning joked, “You’ve got this all wrong. This is a selection committee to find new talent for CBS Sports.” Brando said, “Ten years ago, when Eli came to New York, I had this idea that Archie might want to come up and do a little television.” Manning: “It’s been fun.” Brando: “I’ll take that as a yes to the committee” (“College Football Today,” CBS, 10/5).

NAMES: Maple Leafs Senior VP & GM DAVE NONIS on Saturday "began feeling ill and had to be attended to by arena physicians" during the team's home game versus the Senators. He was "taken to nearby St. Michaels Hospital and kept overnight." A team spokesperson yesterday said that Nonis was "discharged from the hospital and was now 'resting comfortably' at home" (THEGLOBEANDMAIL.com, 10/6)....Jaguars Owner SHAHID KHAN gave $250,000 to Florida Gov. RICK SCOTT's re-election campaign. Delaware North Cos. and several of its affiliates also collectively gave $50,000 (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 10/5)....Basketball HOFer JERRY TARKANIAN yesterday was inducted into the Pasadena City College HOF. He coached at the school from '66-68 (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 10/7)….NASCAR drivers and couple DANICA PATRICK and RICKY STENHOUSE JR. will appear in a “new country music video” for COLT FORD’s new single, “Drivin’ Around Song.” Patrick said that filming “was completed just a few weeks ago” (AP, 10/5)….Actor JOHN TRAVOLTA and wife KELLY PRESTON were at Fenway Park on Saturday for Rays-Red Sox ALDS Game 2 (BOSTON GLOBE, 10/7).
