CFP Selection Committee Reportedly Will Include ADs, A Change From Earlier Comments

Current college ADs "will be used" on the College Football Playoff committee, a "direct reversal from public statements made in May" by CFP Exec Dir Bill Hancock, according to sources cited by Matt Hayes of SPORTING NEWS. It now "appears as the though the selection committee will consist of one athletic director from each of the five power conferences, former coaches and players and possibly former media members." There likely will be an "equal number of current athletic directors, former coaches and a third group of voters." If an AD's school is "part of the playoff process, he or she will leave the room during voting for that team." The AD would "stay in the room if a member from his or her conference is being debated" (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 7/17). ESPN.com's Brett McMurphy reported it is unknown if any current AD from the other FBS conferences -- the American, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West or Sun Belt -- "would be on the committee." A source said it is "highly, highly unlikely" the committee will release weekly rankings. The current BCS provides weekly rankings after the midpoint of the season. Hancock said that there were "more than 100 individuals nominated to be on the committee by the 10 FBS conferences and independent schools." Hancock: "We want to have people of high integrity, and people with the courage to make difficult decisions" (ESPN.com, 7/17).
