Goodell Optimistic About Ravens-Orioles Solution, Calls O's "Very Cooperative"

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell yesterday said that there is "no resolution yet" to the Sept. 5 scheduling conflict between the Ravens and the Orioles, but he "did express optimism that an accommodation can be reached," according to Wilson & Zrebiec of the Baltimore SUN. Goodell said, “People are working toward trying to find a solution that will work for everybody. We recognize that this wasn't something that baseball or the Orioles asked for. They've been very cooperative in trying to work out a solution. We're both trying to compromise to say, 'How can we do this so the fans of Baltimore can have a really special day with an Orioles game in the afternoon and a Ravens celebration at night for their Super Bowl championship?' I'm hopeful that will happen." Zrebiec notes the opponent for the Ravens' season-opener "still hasn’t been announced, but the leading candidates are believed to be" the Patriots, Steelers, Texans and Packers. Patriots Owner Robert Kraft recently said that he "expected his team to open the season in Baltimore" (BALTIMORESUN.com, 3/20). SI's Peter King wrote on his Twitter feed, "Don't blame O's for not moving game after Bal+Chisox both on road previous night. My solution: Sat day-night DH."
