Football, Basketball Account For Nearly All Ticket Revenues At Carolina, NC State

The Univ. of North Carolina football and men’s basketball programs "accounted for nearly" 96% of the athletic department’s ticket sales during the '11-12 school year, while North Carolina State Univ.'s "two main revenue programs" accounted for nearly 99% of its ticket sales, according to David Morrison of the Greensboro NEWS & RECORD. UNC during the '11-12 school year made $23.66M in ticket sales, with 95.5% "coming from football and men’s basketball," which combined for $22.6M. NC State's ticket revenue was $18.24M for the '11-12 year, with 98.7% coming from football and men’s basketball, which combined for $18.01M. UNC also "reported ticket revenue from baseball, men’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s basketball, along with sales not allocated by sport." NC State "reported ticket revenue from baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s gymnastics." UNC reported $22.74M in NCAA and ACC payouts "plus other media rights payments," with football ($11.32M) and men’s basketball ($10.72M) combining to make up 96.9% "of the pie." NC State earned $19.90M from NCAA and ACC payouts and "other media rights deals," with football ($9.53M) and men’s basketball ($6.67M) making up 81.4%. UNC reported $82.42M in "total revenue" in '11-12 and $81.92M in expenses, for a "net profit of $502,647." NC State reported a $3.43M profit, with $59.76M "in revenue and $56.33 in expenses" (Greensboro NEWS & RECORD, 2/20).
