Univ. Of Tulsa Fires AD Parmley Following Gambling Scandal; NCAA Investigating

Univ. of Tulsa President Steadman Upham in a letter sent to school faculty, staff and students last night announced that AD Ross Parmley had been "fired effective immediately," according to Bill Haisten of the TULSA WORLD. Parmley was "placed on paid administrative leave" after a court affidavit called him an "admitted gambler." Upham "indicated that Parmley wasn't truthful with university officials in October 2011 about an FBI investigation and the extent to which he had been gambling." Former Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe said that an NCAA investigation likely will "raise several questions, including Tulsa’s diligence in investigating Parmley’s role in gambling." Parmley became TU Dir of Football Operations in '05 and in '06 became the Assistant AD/Football Operations. TU Exec VP & Treasurer Kevan Buck is "serving as the university’s acting athletic director." The school has "not announced a timeline for conducting a search for Parmley’s successor." Upham said that TU would "cooperate fully with the NCAA’s investigation" (TULSA WORLD, 12/5).
