Execs Feel Consumer Shift In Gambling Factors Into Horse Racing's Popularity Decline

Sports execs feel the biggest factor in the decline of horse racing’s popularity has been the general consumer shift to other forms of gambling, according to a Turnkey Sports Poll conducted in September. Twenty-four percent of respondents feel that the consumer shift is to blame, while 19% blamed strong competition from other sports leagues and properties and another 19% blamed it on a lack of personalities in the sport to which fans can relate. Seventeen-percent of respondents blamed the decline on the sport having virtually no TV presence (Turnkey Sports).
