NFL Franchise Notes: Bucs To Drop iPad Playbooks After Unforeseen Issues

Buccaneers fan blog JOEBUCSFAN.com reported the team, "one of the first" to adopt the use of iPads for playbooks, "has distanced itself from it." Bucs RB Earnest Graham said, "I think the concept of the iPads was excellent but at times a bit too much for players and coaches alike. The problem was that at times guys would forget to charge them overnight or to update them when they came into the building because everything needed to download before meetings. ... I thought the idea was great but it was definitely more negatives than positives with a young team" (JOEBUCSFAN.com, 7/23).

AHOY, MATEY! In Tampa, Stephen Holder noted the Buccaneers will “open sales of individual-game tickets later this week.” The Bucs “made official plans to celebrate the most important achievement in the team's history: The 2002 Super Bowl victory.” The team is “going to mark the occasion with a celebration scheduled for the Dec. 9 game against the Eagles.” Details of the event are not yet known, but it “presumably will involve many members of that championship team” (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 7/23).

CARDINAL RULE: In Phoenix, Kent Somers notes the Cardinals again are offering two "Protect the Nest" three-game ticket plans, "mirroring previous plans that have helped the team sell out every game" since University of Phoenix Stadium opened in '06. The plans involve “pairing a popular game with those that [are] harder to sell out.” A strong demand is “expected for [the] game against the 49ers on Monday Night, Oct. 29, and against the Bears on Dec. 23.” The three-game plans “start as low as $90 per seat plus applicable facility fees” (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 7/24).

CHANNEL SURFING
: Dolphins CEO Mike Dee said that the team will “decide Aug. 9 whether or not to implement the NFL's new policy regarding local television blackouts.” Dee: “We're going to take our time given the sales momentum that we have.” Dee said that the Dolphins have “no plans to tarp off any seats" in Sun Life Stadium for the '12 season. He said that the Dolphins have “eclipsed 6,100 new season-ticket sales.” Dee said those numbers have the Dolphins on pace for "one of our best all-time offseason new season-ticket selling periods” (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 7/21).
