Excel Sports, Mark Steinberg Sign Top Amateur Golfer

Excel Sports Management agent Mark Steinberg announced today the company has signed the top-ranked amateur golfer in the world, Patrick Cantlay, who many golf experts consider to be the most talented in a stellar crop of young golfers expected to come out this year. Golf Channel reported yesterday that despite having two years of eligibility remaining at UCLA, Cantlay was expected to turn pro and sign with Steinberg, who also reps Tiger Woods. “Patrick is an outstanding individual, as well as an exceptional talent who already has proven success at the professional level,” Steinberg said in a statement. Cantlay will make his professional debut this weekend at the Travelers Championship. He has already had success on the PGA Tour. In '11, he made the cut in each of his five starts, including a top 10 finish at the RBC Canadian Open and four top-25 finishes, and earned low amateur honors at the Masters in '12 (Liz Mullen, SportsBusiness Journal).

SIGNING UP: IMG has signed golfer and Univ. of Texas grad Dylan Frittelli for worldwide management and marketing representation. Frittelli will make his professional debut this week at the BMW Int'l in Cologne, Germany. IMG London’s Duncan Reid will manage Frittelli with assistance from IMG South Africa’s Robyn Cox and Jacques Retief as well as IMG America's Ben Walter (IMG).
