Jazz Ownership Looks To Buy Utah Radio KZNS, Switch Team's Flagship

The Jazz will change their flagship radio station in "a move that will significantly shake up the sports radio landscape," according to Scott Pierce of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. Jazz Owner the Larry H. Miller Group is “finalizing a deal" to buy KZNS-FM and KZNS-AM. The move "will not only take Jazz games off" KFNZ-AM, "but it will also affect some of the best-known sports radio personalities in Utah.” Jazz and LHM Sports & Entertainment Group President Randy Rigby said, "I’m excited, because it strengthens our coverage area. It gives us an FM platform and an AM platform for the Utah Jazz." He added, "This is going to be a super sports powerhouse radio station." Rigby said that the move was prompted by “a desire to improve the Jazz’s radio reach along the Wasatch Front.” In addition to the Jazz, the KZNS stations also have agreements “with the Salt Lake Bees (another LHM property), the Utah Blaze, the Utah Grizzlies, Utah State and Weber State.” Pierce notes the name of the stations “will remain The Zone for now.” Rigby: "We may change it, but right now it’s just going to be The Zone. It’s an established name" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 5/17).
