Julius Erving Accepts Part-Time Position As 76ers Strategic Advisor

The 76ers have hired Basketball HOFer Julius Erving as a Strategic Advisor. In his new role, which runs at least through '15, Erving will offer advice and counsel to 76ers CEO Adam Aron and Owner Joshua Harris (76ers). Erving said, "It means being available, obviously being knowledgeable and being able to impart that knowledge at specific times, which for Adam and myself and Josh and myself would pretty much be on demand." Erving said that he "would maintain his residence in Atlanta but come to Philadelphia when needed" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 5/5). Erving said his role is "across the board." In New Jersey, Martin Frank noted that includes "advice on sponsors, players, possible trades, and other business aspects." Erving said he did not come back to the 76ers sooner because after he retired, he "needed to get out and do different things" (Cherry Hill COURIER-POST, 5/5). Erving said, "I have built a relationship since last November which really opened this door for me." He added, "It made sense to me at this stage of my life. I'm looking forward to it. If I have something to offer, even if it's in the middle of the night, I will do it. I'm excited about this relationship and where it can go in the seasons ahead" (ESPN.com, 5/4).
