MLS Crew Using Promise Of 100-Foot-Tall Sign To Help Lure Stadium Naming-Rights Sponsor

The MLS Crew “wants to put a 100-foot-tall sign along I-71 to display the name of the person or company that buys the naming rights to Crew Stadium,” according to Mark Ferenchik of the COLUMBUS DISPATCH. Crew President & GM Mark McCullers yesterday said that the team “hopes to sell the naming rights for $15 million over 10 years.” The $2M cylindrical sign would have “a half-dozen or so rings that could feature the names of sponsors” and the top of the sign “would be reserved for the person or business that pays for the naming rights to the stadium.” It also would have “two LED displays that would highlight coming events at Crew Stadium.” Each display would be “20 feet tall and 42 feet wide.” McCullers said the Crew “could erect the sign without selling the naming rights if enough corporate sponsors step up” (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 4/25).
