NFL Players Vote To Re-Elect Exec Dir DeMaurice Smith At Annual Meeting

NFL player reps gathered at the NFLPA's annual meeting in Marco Island, Fla., today unanimously voted in favor of reaffirming DeMaurice Smith as Exec Dir. Smith's re-election vote had been scheduled for Sunday, but outgoing NFLPA President Kevin Mawae brought a motion to the board of player reps after giving his president's report that kicked off the annual meeting today. The motion was seconded by three player representatives and Smith was unanimously re-affirmed as the top executive officer. There had been media reports and industry speculation that someone might challenge Smith for the job leading the largest athlete union in professional sports in the U.S., but no real challenge ever materialized.
