Purdue Debuts Modernized Mackey Arena After $100M Renovation

Purdue Univ. debuted the 44-year-old Mackey Arena's $100M renovation last Tuesday, and everything "from the the scorer's bench to the corner scoreboards has been modernized," according to Nathan Baird of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. The renovated arena -- featuring "a concourse nearly triple the previous width -- will be re-dedicated" this weekend. Fans willing to "pay a four-figure season ticket premium get luxury courtside seating, complete with iPad access and admittance to the exclusive John R. Wooden Courtside Club." Another section of premium seating "includes access to the two-level Spurgeon Club." Around the concourse, fans can "take a stroll through history by viewing a collection of memorabilia." The entrance to the Birck Athletic Center, which "houses various support staff offices, boasts several upgrades." The full project "encompassed 280,000 feet, including enhancements to locker rooms, a fitness center and sports medicine facility that will serve hundreds of Purdue athletes." Still in the "works is a basketball practice court that is an exact replica of Keady Court" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 11/6).
