Goodell Expects Two Regular-Season Games In London Beginning Next Season

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he expects there to be two regular-season games overseas next season, up from the one that has been staged since '07. Talking to SportBusiness Journal after this morning’s New York/New Jersey Super Bowl Host Committee press conference, Goodell said he wanted two games overseas annually. The owners’ '06 mandate to stage a regular-season game in London annually expires after the Oct. 23 contest between the Buccaneers and the Bears. The owners are expected to pass a new resolution on October 11 in Houston, but whether the resolution would call for one or two games a season was unclear, so Goodell is showing he will push for two games. Sources said both games would be in London. Goodell said the addition of a second game would not require an expansion of the season. On a separate matter, Goodell described the two competing stadium sites in L.A. seeking to attract an NFL team as “good alternatives,” but said a lot of work remained to analyze the proposed venues.
