49ers, Raiders Discussing Possibility Of Sharing New Bay Area Stadium

The 49ers and Raiders have "been meeting to discuss the possibility of sharing a new football stadium," a development that "could have a long-range impact on the Bay Area sports landscape," according to a front-page piece by Vittorio Tafur of the S.F. CHRONICLE. 49ers President & CEO Jed York Monday said, "We've put our teams together. It doesn't mean we're going to find the right deal that fits for both teams, but we're certainly going to get a look at those options." The Raiders "appear amenable to a partnership." Raiders Chief Exec Amy Trask said, "We have said repeatedly that we have an open mind with respect to our stadium solution. An open mind means an open mind as to sharing a facility with the 49ers. I say to Jed regularly that we should have not only an open mind to the sharing of the facility, but to the location of the facility which we might share." Tafur notes location "could be the key issue at play." The 49ers "have been working on getting a new stadium built for years, most recently" setting their sights on Santa Clara, where the team also has its HQs (S.F. CHRONICLE, 7/20). In San Jose, Tim Kawakami reports the 49ers "have an avenue to land an NFL stadium loan" thanks to a part of the new CBA, "which could become official by the end of this week." An NFL source said that the CBA "designates 'stadium credits' for three locations -- Los Angeles and presumably the Bay Area are two of them -- but not specific teams." Another NFL source said that the credits are a "precursor to the NFL setting up a formal stadium loan program" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 7/20).
