In DC, Carla Peay notes Wizards and Capitals Owner TED LEONSIS "was the mayor of a small town in Florida" before he founded AOL and became a successful businessman, and "more so than any of his other business accomplishments, Leonsis credits that experience with preparing him to become a sports team owner." During a speech to the National Press Club yesterday, Leonsis said, "It's your job to be able to filter what each side is saying, but never lose sight that it's the masses that we have to be concerned with" (WASHINGTON TIMES, 7/14).

EXPENSIVE GREENS FEES: Bobcats Owner MICHAEL JORDAN "faces a fine of $1 million if he plays a round of golf" at this year's American Century Classic with a current NBA player, due to rules governing the lockout. Jordan called the NBA on Tuesday "to check in, and the NBA confirmed he would be fined if he played with a current NBA player" at the event in Lake Tahoe. Clippers coach VINNY DEL NEGRO also is planning to play in this week's event (RGJ.com, 7/13).

TRYING TO ERASE THE MEMORIES: In a profile of ERIN ANDREWS for MARIE CLAIRE magazine, Abigail Pesta notes the ESPN reporter is "launching a new offensive -- to vanquish the video" of her taken illegally through the peephole of her hotel room in '09. In order to do so, Andrews "must first buy the copyright to the illicit video of her own body." She said, "I've had lawyers send out cease-and-desist letters to websites to take down the video, which they never do. The copyright helps us say, 'We have this -- get the video off, or we will sue'" (MARIECLAIRE.com, 7/13).

NAMES: The Portland Timbers, adidas and Portland Parks & Recreation yesterday presented a $40,000 check to the Just A Field campaign, which "reached its goal of raising $250,000 to build a new soccer field at Chapman Elementary School" (OREGONLIVE.com, 7/13)....Celebrity chef and thoroughbred owner BOBBY FLAY will deliver the keynote address at the National Museum of Racing and HOF's induction ceremony on Aug. 12 (AP, 7/12)....Fox Sports Senior VP/Field Operations JERRY STEINBERG is on the cover of this month's Santa Barbara Polo Magazine (THE DAILY).
