This Week's Newsmakers: All England Club Scores With New ESPN/Wimbledon Deal

THE DAILY each Friday offers our take on the performances over the past week of people and entities in sports business. Here are this week's newsmakers:

WIN: ALL ENGLAND CLUB -- The week started with the club signing a lucrative new deal with ESPN that gets it more live coverage in the U.S., something it clearly was frustrated over and absolutely wanted based on the remarks from CEO IAN RITCHIE. The deal removes an asterisk long associated with Wimbledon as one of the last major sporting events to air with tape delays. The week concludes with the club finalizing its North American media plan and adding some extra funds to its coffers with a 10-year extension with TSN in Canada for rights to the event.

LOSE: NBA.COM -- OK, it's been a short news week, and while we understand and appreciate the challenges of CBA restrictions, we also really admire when artists vow to "strip back the noise" and focus on key elements. But poor NBA.com, forbidden from using current player images for reasons that aren’t made entirely clear, just looks too circa late-'90s.  We dig retro, but we like tech and digital advances much better.

DRAW
: INDIANAPOLIS TRACKS -- In an effort to boost attendance and appeal for the Brickyard 400 weekend, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and NASCAR agree to add a Nationwide Series race and two Grand-Am road course races to the annual event. It could prove to be a solid move by IMS to keep the track more relevant outside the Indy 500. But the move of the Nationwide race, combined with the loss of a Camping World Truck Series race, robs local Lucas Oil Raceway of its top draws. The track will keep an NHRA presence, but Lucas Oil Founder FORREST LUCAS has already said he expects the track's naming-rights deal to be renegotiated.
