Study To Examine Needed Long-Term Improvements At RBC Center

RBC Center Owner The Centennial Authority has "commissioned a study that will identify tens of millions of dollars more in capital spending that will be need to be made over the next couple of decades" at the facility, according to Chris Baysden of the TRIANGLE BUSINESS JOURNAL. The authority is "paying consulting firm Populous $125,000 for the study, which will update a capital improvement plan done back in 2006." Populous is "expected to have a draft in late July or early August." Baysden notes authority officials also are "working on a number of improvements between now and the start" of the seasons for the Hurricanes and NC State basketball. Those include "replacing 12,000 seats at a cost of" $1.2M and "adding a $200,000 drop-down curtain to close off the upper tier of the arena." Centennial Authority Chair Michael Weeks also noted that the organization is "working to add an antenna that would improve cellphone service in the facility." Weeks said that the authority "gets a lot of complaints from event attendees who can't make a phone call or get a text in the RBC Center" (TRIANGLE BUSINESS JOURNAL, 5/20 issue).
