SI Tops Sports Mag Q1 Ad Revenue With $145M; ESPN The Mag Up 24%

SI led all sports publications with $145M in ad revenue during the first quarter of '11, up 7.9% from the same period a year ago, according to data from Publishers Information Bureau. Total magazine rate-card-reported ad revenue for Q1 closed at $4.3B, up 6.1%. ESPN The Magazine saw the biggest jump, up 24.2%. Other magazines seeing double-digit percentage increases during the same period were Golf Magazine, Golf Digest, Sporting News, Transworld Motocross, Transworld Surf and Transworld Ride BMX. The two major cycling publications -- Bicycling and Cycle World -- both saw declines in ad revenue during Q1. SI for Kids ad revenue was down 7.2% in Q1, and the magazine has not seen a gain in ad revenue since the end of Q2 '09.
