Must Be The Hair: Troy Polamalu Tops The List Of Most Popular NFL Jerseys

Steelers S Troy Polamalu’s No. 43 jersey was the most popular jersey based on sales at NFLShop.com from April 1, 2010 through March 31, according to Michael McCarthy of USA TODAY. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers ranks second on the list following his Super Bowl XLV MVP performance, the first time he has "amassed more jersey sales" than his predecessor, Brett Favre. Broncos QB Tim Tebow, who “ranked No. 1 through November, finished No. 5” (USATODAY.com, 4/14). SPORTING NEWS' Dennis Dillon noted it is "not too surprising to see Polamalu at the top of the list," as his jersey "ranked sixth, 11th, third and fourth" the previous four years. Polamalu and Packers LB Clay Matthews "were the only two non-quarterbacks in the top 10" (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 4/13). However, in Pittsburgh, Ed Bouchette writes Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger ranking 16th is "bigger" news than Polamalu topping the list. Bouchette: "This guy's jersey wasn't only NOT being purchased a year ago, many who had them were either burning them or mailing them back to the Steelers with notes of disgust. ... From that to No. 16 on the NFL's jersey sales is quite a climb back" (POST-GAZETTE.com, 4/15).
