Robby Gordon Settles His Dispute With Specialized, Alters Logo

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team owner/driver Robby Gordon has “settled his dispute with Specialized Bicycle Components and has agreed to alter the logo for the Speed Energy drink he is manufacturing and selling to raise funds to race,” according to Bob Pockrass of SCENEDAILY.com. Specialized in November obtained an injunction “to keep Gordon from selling cans of the product with the original logo because the logo looked too much like the one the bicycle company has had for 28 years.” Gordon since that time has “altered his logo to look less like an S.” The two sides “agreed to a settlement earlier this month, and the settlement was approved by a U.S. District Court judge Monday in California.” The settlement states that Gordon “must cease creating products with the original logo and can no longer sell any product with the logo on it.” Gordon has until Jan. 15 to “stop using the original logo on websites, race cars, uniforms and team vehicles.” He has until Feb. 15 to “remove all videos from his website that include team members wearing any type of clothing that contain the original logo.” While Gordon “will have to destroy some product, he said he should be back at full distribution in the next month.” Gordon “created the energy drink in hopes of not having to rely on the traditional sponsorship model” (SCENEDAILY.com, 12/22).
