NFL Reportedly Lines Up Black Eyed Peas For Super Bowl Halftime

Black Eyed Peas Also Performed Before Super
Bowl In '05, NFL Season Opener In '09

The Black Eyed Peas "will be the musical act that will play at halftime" of Super Bowl XLV in February at Cowboys Stadium, according to a source cited by SPORTS BY BROOKS. An NFL spokesperson declined to comment on the report. The Black Eyed Peas were part of the Super Bowl XXXIX pregame show in '05 titled "Bridging Generations." The band also performed at the NFL Kickoff Concert in Pittsburgh in September '09 (SPORTSBYBROOKS.com, 9/16). NFL Senior VP/Events Frank Supovitz on his Twitter feed wrote, "Sorry, but our lips are sealed on Super Bowl Halftime!" A representative from the band's record label, Interscope Records, could not be reached for comment. The Black Eyed Peas would be the "most youthful group" of halftime performers since Super Bowl XXXVIII in '04, the Reliant Stadium game "notorious for the breast-exposing" performance by Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 9/17). YAHOO SPORTS' Chris Chase wrote this would be "actually a pretty good move by the NFL." The Black Eyed Peas are "at least relevant and have songs people under the age of 25 will have heard outside their parents' minivans." Chase: "It may not be yours or my particular cup of tea, but at least the Peas are inoffensive provided they don't play 'Boom, Boom, Pow'" (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 9/16).
