Round Two: Mayweather, De La Hoya Close To Deal For Rematch

Mayweather-De La Hoya II Close To Reality
Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya are "close to finishing a deal for a rematch," according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.com. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said that the fight would take place either September 13 or September 20 and be televised on HBO PPV.  Schaefer: "We are still discussing things but we have almost finalized it. I think an announcement will be forthcoming." While a site has not been confirmed, Schaefer is "holding the September dates" at The Home Depot Center near L.A., and several other venues have expressed interest, including the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the site of the first Mayweather-De La Hoya bout last May.  A source added that Dodger Stadium is "interested in hosting the fight after L.A. native De La Hoya suggested he'd like to fight there before retiring." The first fight "shattered box office records," including total gross ($165M); PPV buys (2.4 million); PPV gross ($134.4M) and live gate ($18.4M) (ESPN.com, 1/16).
