CUTS AT KMPC: In L.A., Tom Hoffarth reports in his blog that Vulcan Sports Media has laid off sales, promotion and update staff at KMPC-AM in Santa Monica, an affiliate of Sporting News Radio Network. Vulcan recently sold Sporting News and its assets to American City Business Journals, parent company of THE DAILY. KMPC GM Roger Nadel, whose job was cut, in an e-mail wrote, “The three radio stations owned by Vulcan Sports Media [including KMPC] were not sold in that deal, and remain for sale. Vulcan Sports Media has now decided that they want to focus their efforts on their affiliation with Sporting News Radio Network rather than local operations.” Hoffarth writes the announcement “essentially eliminates any local sports-talk shows as of” today (DAILYNEWS.com, 10/18).
