The Nationals named former Braves Senior VP BOB WOLFE Exec VP, and incoming Nationals President STAN KASTEN has named three senior VPs in the “first indication of the shape the new administration will take,” according to Barry Svrluga of the WASHINGTON POST. AL MALDON, who was part of TED LERNER’s ownership bid, was named Senior VP/External Affairs, where he will serve “as a liaison both to the ownership group” and the DC government. Maldon will also work for the team’s foundation and in community relations. MIKE SHAPIRO, a consultant for the ownership bid, was named Senior VP/Business Affairs, working on “everything from the new stadium project to the television rights issue to improving the spring training site” in Viera, Florida. Former Bobcats Exec VP/Business Operations TOM WARD was named Senior VP/Marketing. Kasten said of the team’s current employees, “I don’t have any expectations of coming in here and letting people go. I’m assuming everybody here is competent and worthy of their job. Until I learn otherwise, that’s my starting place” (WASHINGTON POST, 5/25).
