Various Groups Interested In Blues; AEG Eyes Savvis Center

Several Groups Showing Interest In Blues
Groups being assembled by National City Bank Regional President Shaun Hayes, The Sansone Group Principal Tony Sansone Jr. and Apex Oil Chair Tony Novelly and his son, St. Louis-based Stifel, Nicolaus & Co. exec P.A. Novelly II, “have emerged as potential buyers” of the Blues and the lease on the Savvis Center, according to sources cited by Desloge & Tritto of the ST. LOUIS BUSINESS JOURNAL. The sources indicated that former Blues Chair Michael Shanahan Sr. and his son, Huntleigh/McGehee Inc. President and UHL Missouri River Otters Owner Michael Shanahan Jr., are also interested. Meanwhile, AEG “is exploring an option to buy” the Savvis Center lease. A sale of the lease to AEG “would split the building ownership and team ownership. That could make the purchase of the Blues more affordable for a local buyer, since the new team owners would not have to foot the bill on the remaining $62.4[M] in bonds on the arena.” AEG “would be prohibited from buying the Blues because the company already owns the” NHL Kings. Boston-based Game Plan Chair Bob Caporale said that other facility ownership groups have contacted his company, which is managing the sale of the team and arena lease for the Blues, to discuss the Savvis Center, but he declined to name them (ST. LOUIS BUSINESS JOURNAL, 8/22 issue).
