An ad campaign that casts N.Y. “as the world’s most happening Olympic Village is about to blanket the city,” according to David Saltonstall of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. The campaign, titled “Let the Dreams Begin,” launches as IOC members are scheduled to visit the city in two weeks to tour potential venues for the 2012 Games, and includes slogans that “underscore [N.Y.’s] large and diverse populace,” such as “There’s room for everyone!” and “Every country gets home field advantage!” Ads will cover more than 4,000 buses and 1,200 phone kiosks, and decals and stickers “will grace the side of every cab and subway car in town.” All the ad space has been donated, and city officials estimated the value of the campaign, which will also include more than 75 ads at city airports, “at more than” $20M. Signs reading “People will speak your language” and “There will be no strangers” will greet IOC members (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 2/3). In N.Y., Jim Rutenberg reports the ads will remain “until the [IOC] renders its decision this summer.” The campaign is “also intended to influence the scores of international reporters who will cover the visit, while trying to excite the public as well” (N.Y. TIMES, 2/3).
