THE DAILY’s Turnstile Tracker Counts 476 Million Fans

In our fifth annual Turnstile Tracker, the most-comprehensive study of sporting event attendance in the U.S. and Canada, THE DAILY found that over 476 million spectators attended sporting events of all types during the ‘03-04 sports year. The figure marks a 2% increase from last year’s total of 466.7 million, and a 12.8% increase from the 422 million in ‘99-‘00, the first year of the study. While exact figures on some sports were not available, the data does serve as the most detailed estimate of the number of attendees of sporting events for the ‘03-04 season. Today, THE DAILY presents a summary of total attendance by sport. Over the next several weeks, we will continue to present detailed data by sport.
