BALCO: In S.F., Fainaru-Wada & Williams report a newly released document written by IRS criminal investigator JEFF NOVITZKY filed in federal court last Friday states that federal investigators "seized vials and containers of suspected steroids and human growth hormone as well as more than 100 syringes when they searched the home and car of" BARRY BONDS' personal trainer GREG ANDERSON. For the first time, the government "offered a detailed inventory of items it retrieved during a raid" on Anderson's home (S.F. CHRONICLE, 4/29).

On eBay Following 7-14 Start

AT AUCTION: In Seattle, Dwight Perry reports Mariners CEO HOWARD LINCOLN is "up for bid on eBay, courtesy of one fan frustrated over the team's" 7-14 start. The item description reads in part, "The typical Seattle resident actually believes the Mariners are barely profitable and have a payroll of $95[M]! It's hard to argue with results like that" (SEATTLE TIMES, 4/29). At presstime, the bidding, which opened at $0.01 and closes Tuesday, was at $69,100 after 48 bids (THE DAILY)....Louisville Slugger manufacturer Hillerich & Bradsby last week paid $345,500 at an auction conducted by MastroNet for the bat used by HOFer JOE DIMAGGIO when his record 56-game hitting streak ended in '41. The company plans to display it in its museum in Louisville (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 4/28).

NAMES: Yankees 3B ALEX RODRIGUEZ, NASCAR driver DALE EARNHARDT JR. and U.S. Olympic softball team P JENNIE FINCH were named to People magazine's list of "THE 50 MOST BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE IN THE WORLD 2004" (AP, 4/28).... ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY's Warren Cohen reviews sportswriter TOM CALLAHAN's new book "THE BASES WERE LOADED (AND SO WAS I)" and grades it a B+. In the book, Callahan "casually recalls kidnapping golfer NANCY LOPEZ (to interview her) and fending off allegations that he slept with catcher JOHNNY BENCH's wife." Callahan notes that winning and losing "are secondary in the press box ... since sportswriters are only 'rooting for our columns'— whatever outcome makes the best copy" (ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, 4/30)....DAILY VARIETY's Cathy Dunkley reports JOHN SAYLES will write "CARLISLE SCHOOL," a movie about JIM THORPE, with MARK CIARDI and GORDON GRAY, who were responsible for "MIRACLE," producing with others. The film will "chronicle the early years of Thorpe's collegiate sports career during his years at the Carlisle Indian Industrial School." The project will also detail the school's 1911 and 1912 football seasons under coach "POP" WARNER and Thorpe's pentathlon and decathlon victories in the 1912 Olympic Games (DAILY VARIETY, 4/29).
