PGA Tour To Charge Tournaments For Use Of ShotLink

ShotLink Will Cost Tournaments
Nearly $5,000 Per Application

The PGA Tour recently informed tournament directors that it "plans to charge an estimated $5,000 per application when ShotLink is used as a revenue generator at tournaments," according to GOLFWEEK's Forecaddie. The license fee, which was introduced at the PGA Tour Tournament Association's annual meeting, "would help the Tour recoup implementation and support costs of ShotLink." Tournaments had "hoped to increase revenue by selling ads on large screens that display ShotLink's data, [but] now it appears the Tour — not the tournaments and their charities — would reap the additional income." One tournament official said, "That idea floated like a lead balloon," and he added that the tournaments "wish to discuss the issue further with the tour" (GOLFWEEK, 11/15 issue).

GENDER BLENDER: PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem, on women competing in men's events: "I don't see a trend involved here where a lot of tournaments are going to want women golfers to play. I frankly don't think there are many that add much to a tournament at this point in time" (AP, 11/11).
