LeBron Trails Only MJ In Jersey Sales; Cavs Renew TV Deals

His Airness Still Taking All Comers In Jersey Sales

Along with selling well at the NBA Store in N.Y., sales of LeBron James jerseys "have totaled more than $4[M] since the jerseys went on sale" June 26, and last week, James' wine-colored road jersey "was No. 2 in sales among all licensed sports apparel," trailing only Michael Jordan's retro Wizards jersey, according to data from SportScanINFO, a FL-based company that tracks sales of sports apparel and footwear. Cavs President Len Komoroski: "It's been unprecedented in terms of anything we've seen before. We've also had strong sales of Cavaliers merchandise in general." SportScanINFO said that the Cavs have jumped from 17th to sixth among NBA teams in apparel sales (AP, 8/2).

NOT JUST JERSEYS: In Cleveland, Roger Brown cites sources as saying that a new contract between the Cavs and WUAB-UPN "is pretty much done" and that the station will show 30-40 games this season, up from its "usual 20 to 25 telecasts a year." WUAB will also air "an extended pregame show before many" of the broadcasts. Brown: "Clearly, [WUAB] is expanding its Cavs coverage because of James." FSN OH "plans to show its usual 40 telecasts this season" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 8/4).
