Stringer’s Malpractice Claim
Against Doctor Settled

NFL: San Diego officials and the Chargers "will continue private negotiations on the team's demands for a new stadium for an additional three months," as council members voted 7-1 yesterday "to approve the extension of the negotiations," which were due to end June 2 (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 5/20)....In St. Paul, Hannah Allam reports Kelci Stringer, the widow of Vikings OT Korey Stringer, "has settled her malpractice claim against" Dr. David Knowles, who treated Stringer before he died of heatstroke two years ago. Meanwhile, Stringer family attorney Paul DeMarco said that the family "plans to continue its efforts to hold the Vikings responsible for the death" and plans to appeal the claims involving the team, which were dismissed last month (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 5/20). Vikings Dir of Ticket Sales Phil Huebner said that the club "will wind up with about 93[%] renewals for season tickets" for next season (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 5/18).

MLB: The A's after the first six weeks of the season increased the number of corporate sponsors by 5%, to approximately 120. Most of the team's previous sponsors returned, and "newcomers include Verizon Communications and Cache Creak Indian Bingo and Casino." A's President Michael Crowley said that the team "`is on track to break even,' or possibly turn a profit this season." The A's lost about $3M last season (S.F. BUSINESS TIMES, 5/16 issue)....An Angels official last week at Yankee Stadium "checked out a foul ball and saw that it had a Yankee (1903-2003) logo replacing that of [Commissioner Bud Selig] and MLB." The official said, "They were using it during games, so I called the commissioner's office, and they said it's been OK'd. It's a special one-year deal" (Peter Gammons, ESPN.com, 5/19).
