TV MONITOR: Last night's 10:00pm ET, 60-minute edition of the "Keith Olbermann Evening News" led with commentary on MD Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend's naive remarks following last week's Super Bowl, followed by the NHL All-Star Game at 2:09 into the broadcast. The first NBA report, at 3:07 into the broadcast, was the Lakers-Kings game. At 35:43 in the broadcast, Olbermann commented on the XFL's stance on women side-line reporters. Last night's 11:00pm ET, 60-minute edition of the ESPN's "SportsCenter" led with Knicks-Heat, followed by 76ers-Nets and Kings-Lakers. The first non-NBA report, at 6:23 into the broadcast, was the NHL All-Star game, followed immediately by the NFL Pro Bowl at 12:04 into the show. "SportsCenter" had a 1:18 report on the XFL at 55:30 (THE DAILY).
NOTES: The SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Daniel Kaplan reports Fox Sports will not cover the finals of the Ericsson Open and the Masters Series at Indian Wells, CA, "because of a scheduling conflict with it's new" NASCAR coverage. The Ericsson Open finals will be shown on CBS and the Masters Series finals will shown on ESPN (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 2/5 issue)....In Boston, Jim Baker reported, "No deal struck yet, but NESN is headed from a $10 monthly service in most of" MA and RI to basic cable (BOSTON HERALD, 2/4)....In N.Y., Bob Raissman wrote that Oscar De Le Hoya "wants out of his deal" with HBO. De La Hoya "believes he can put one of his PPV fights on the Internet and make a lot of dough." But De La Hoya's recent loss to Felix Trinidad produced 1.25 million PPV buys, and his loss to Sugar Shane Mosley recorded 588,000. Raissman added De La Hoya "does not realize these losses have tarnished his image. He's not the attraction he once was" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 2/4).
