USA TODAY's Jack Carey profiles SUSAN POTTER NORTON, who will become the first female President of the ORANGE BOWL COMMITTEE on January 18. Two of her "immediate tasks" will be "to negotiate" new contracts between the Orange Bowl and the BCS and between the Orange Bowl and PRO PLAYER STADIUM (USA TODAY, 1/3)...."ET"'s Bob Goen reported that MICHAEL JORDAN, TIGER WOODS and OSCAR DE LA HOYA spent the New Year at Paradise Island's Atlantis resort. Goen: "They weren't there together, but Jordan sure wasn't lonely. He was surrounded by security while gambling into the night" ("ET," 1/2). Meanwhile, in N.Y., Rush & Molloy report that WOODS has bleached his hair blonde (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 1/3). ...EARL WOODS, on RICHARD WILLIAMS' "guidance" of his daughters: "You know, I really don't know his motivation. I can only say that it doesn't reflect favorably on him or his children" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 1/2)....In Philadelphia, Jay Searcy profiled former HBO Sports VP LOU DIBELLA, who is "risking his money and credibility in boxing with a move so bold that it already has resulted in a death threat." DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT is "reorganizing boxing's payroll and offering fighters a package that gives them a voice, leverage, and control of the bottom line that traditionally has been controlled by promoters and managers" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 1/2)....NASCAR team owner and car dealer RICK HENDRICK, who pleaded guilty to mail fraud three years ago, was granted a full pardon by PRESIDENT CLINTON (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 12/23)....CBS SportsLine's Rob Miech reported that MI State Univ.'s TOM IZZO, Univ. of FL's BILLY DONOVAN and Univ. of KY's TUBBY SMITH are the only three college men's basketball coaches "confirmed to be making" seven figures a season, with each making "approximately" $1.15M. Other coaches may make over $1M when factoring in their shoe/apparel deals (CBS SportsLine, 12/29).
