PA Gov. Tom Ridge said he will release an additional
$10M in state capital budget funds to help with efforts to
build new stadiums for the Eagles and Phillies (PA Office of
the Governor). In Philadelphia, Dave Davies writes that
each team now has about $21.5M "less than needed for the
job," representing the remaining $43M "funding gap"
(PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 12/22)....In DC, Paul Schwartzman
writes that the developers of the proposed Capital Centre
mall in Prince George's County, MD, "have decided not to
tear down" US Airways Arena because they say there "is
enough demand to keep it open." One "possible tenant" is
the AFL team purchased last year by Redskins Owner Daniel
Snyder (WASHINGTON POST, 12/22)....In Tampa, Jo-Ann Johnston
writes the FL Department of Revenue "has reversed itself and
decided it wants a share of the money coming" to Tampa
homeowners who rent out their property for Super Bowl XXXV.
Originally, the department said that it "would not expect
homeowners who rent property" to "collect and remit sales
taxes" (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 12/22).
