GOD BLESS 'YE MERRY TRACKSTERS, LET POWERADE SOOTHE THE WAY

Coca-Cola's Powerade will be the title sponsor for the
Powerade Indoor Games at Staples Center on February 11,
according to Helene Elliott of the L.A. TIMES, who reports
that the track and field meet was previously called the L.A.
Indoor Track and Field Championships. Elliott notes that
Powerade's sponsorship deal is "for at least three years, a
significant commitment given the reluctance of major
corporations to back track and field events here in recent
years." The "solid financial backing makes it easier for
organizers to lure elite athletes, some of whom request
$75,000 fees." Two-time Olympic Gold medal winner Maurice
Greene will compete in the L.A. event (L.A. TIMES, 12/21).
