HEADLINE SPORTS GETS MLB ACTION, IS NHL CONTENT ON RADAR?

Headline Sports' MLB coverage debuted last night with
ESPN2's Yankees-Red Sox game, and in Toronto, William
Houston reports that Headline's deal for regular-season and
postseason games and the All-Star Game will cover four years
"for as many as" 120 games per season and is worth between
C$30-35M to MLB. The pact also includes radio rights. The
Canadian Radio-TV and Telecom Commission ruled that Headline
Sports can carry up to 25 hours of live event programming
per week, but it "must balance" U.S. programming with
Canadian content. Sources say Canadian content being
considered includes boxing, lacrosse, soccer, Canadian
college games "and even" NHL games, "which are considered
Canadian if produced in Canada" (GLOBE & MAIL, 6/22).
