NHL KINGS PARTNER WITH BALDWIN ON AHL TEAM IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

The NHL Kings reached an agreement with Manchester
Hockey Group LLC, led by movie producer and former Penguins
Owner Howard Baldwin, to bring an AHL franchise to
Manchester, NH, starting in 2001. The team will play at the
10,000-seat Manchester Civic Center, which is currently
under construction (AHL). In NH, Michael Cousineau writes
that "no one would disclose the purchase price or the exact
percentage" of the team the Kings bought, but Baldwin said,
"I ain't going to retire on this deal." The Kings, which
have "been shopping for" an AHL team for the past two to
three years, have "set a target of averaging" 5,000-to-6,000
fans per game in Manchester (Manchester UNION-LEADER, 6/15).
The BOSTON GLOBE reports that the Kings "have bought a
majority ownership" of the NH franchise. The arena will
cost $70M to build (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/15).
