LIGHTNING STRIKES IN DOWNTOWN TAMPA: TEAM PLOTS NEW FACILITY

Palace Sports & Entertainment (PS&E) is planning a new
facility for the Lightning in downtown Tampa that "may
include a sports bar/game center, three upscale restaurants
and a ballroom for the new Tampa Marriott Waterside hotel,"
according to Kyle Parks of the ST. PETERSBURG TIMES. PS&E
is seeking to build a 200,000-square-foot center called
Treasure Pointe that would be located on three acres of land
it owns between the Ice Palace and a Marriott. The
developers "envision" the facility would "draw both Ice
Palace patrons and Tampa Convention Center visitors." The
developers' "goals" include landing an establishment
"similar to" an ESPNZone. Lightning President Ron Campbell:
"At arenas around the country, this is a concept that is
going in around them. The idea is to have people come early
and stay late" (ST. PETERSBURG TIMES, 1/26).
