LEAGUE LICENSING ARMS FILE SUIT AGAINST CYBERSQUATTER

The licensing arms of the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB and the
CLC have joined in a lawsuit against a Canadian
cybersquatter, according to Chris Zelkovich of the TORONTO
STAR. The suit contends that flairmail.com, operated by
Jeff Burgar of Edmonton, "violates U.S. law by selling
customized e-mail addresses incorporating the names of
teams." Examples include rangers1.com, goredwings1.net and
yankees1.com. The suit contends that flairmail.com "profits
from the names in a variety of ways, including from
advertising revenue generated by e-mail accounts" (TORONTO
STAR, 12/22). The suit asks for Burgar to cease such action
and for unspecified damages (BLOOMBERG, 12/22).
