WILL EAGLES EVER FLY INTO NEW STADIUM? BANNER NOT SO SURE

          Four weeks after a potential stadium deal for the
     Phillies and Eagles "collapsed," Eagles Exec VP Joe Banner's
     "mood is ... dark," and his "once-clear picture of the
     Eagles' future is very clouded," according to Edward Moran
     of the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS.  Banner: "I'm kind of
     scarred by what just happened.  I've gone from being the
     optimist in this to being the pessimist."  Moran writes that
     it is "believed" that Eagles Dir of Football Operations Tom
     Modrak's "contract actually includes a clause that allows
     him to leave" if a stadium deal is not reached.   Meanwhile,
     the Phillies "are looking at another full year of stadium
     negotiations [and] site-selection headaches.  Phillies
     President David Montgomery: "We're still hopeful to be able
     to accomplish this by April of 2003" (DAILY NEWS, 12/22).
