SCALING BACK: JUST FOR FEET LIKELY TO CLOSE MORE STORES

Just for Feet (JFF), struggling with "too much
inventory and too little cash," is "holding liquidation
sales at nearly a quarter" of its 151 superstores, according
to Ted Pratt of the BIRMINGHAM NEWS. JFF CEO Helen Rockey
"stopped short of saying" that all of JFF's 37 superstores
"will close," and added that JFF "may choose to sublease or
sell many of the locations." Liquidation sales are "being
conducted" at 60% of the Sneaker Stadium stores that JFF
"bought last year and spent millions refurbishing," with the
sales set to "wrap up" in early 2000 (BIRM. NEWS, 11/30).
