UNITED THEY STAND: DC CONQUERS GALAXY FOR MLS CHAMPIONSHIP

          DC United defeated the L.A. Galaxy 2-0 to capture its
     third title in the four years of MLS in yesterday's
     championship game before 44,910 fans at Foxboro Stadium,
     according to Alex Yannis of the N.Y. TIMES, who writes,
     "United continues to set the standard in the four-year-old
     league" (N.Y. TIMES, 11/22).  In Boston, Michael Holley
     writes that by winning its third championship, the United
     "force[d] the league to play catch-up. ... Any pro soccer
     league in the US needs this challenge.  The concept of the
     MLS is good; now the overall play has to catch up to the
     concept" (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/22).  In DC, Michael Wilbon
     writes that MLS Commissioner Don Garber said that while MLS
     "appreciates" United's dominance, it would "love some
     balance" (WASHINGTON POST, 11/22).
