NAMES IN THE NEWS

          ANNA KOURNIKOVA told the British press that "she's
     still a virgin -- and proud of it."  Kournikova: "I'm still
     a virgin.  I do not let anyone even have a peep in my bed." 
     Kournikova has been recently "linked" with Brazilian soccer
     player RONALDO (N.Y. POST, 11/15).  Meanwhile, Kournikova's
     official Web site, www.kournikova.com, will be launched via
     Athlete Direct on November 23. The launch includes a Webcast
     preview on November 22 at 8:00pm ET (Athlete Direct).  
          Angels 1B MO VAUGHN is building a HIT DOG TRAINING
     CENTER near Boston.  The 6,000-square-foot facility is
     "slated to be fully operational" in March 2000 (BOSTON
     HERALD, 11/16)....In Edmonton, Jim Matheson reported that
     Bruins G BYRON DAFOE "will pay" former agent RON SALCER
     "something for his services but not his regular commission
     because Dafoe worked his own deal" with the team.  Dafoe:
     "He (Salcer) and the (NHLPA) were 100 per cent about my
     turning my back on the Bruins.  I got lost in the whole war
     going on" (EDM. JOURNAL, 11/14)....In N.Y., Timothy Smith
     reported that boxer FLOYD MAYWEATHER has signed a management
     contract with rap music "impresario" PRINCE JAYE, who has
     been "trying to sign" other boxers (N.Y. TIMES, 11/14).
