JUMBOSPORTS TO CLOSE REMAINING STORES AND LIQUIDATE

After "limping through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy
proceeding for nine months," JumboSports decided Thursday to
"pull the plug on the remaining 42 stores," according to
Mark Albright of the ST. PETERSBURG TIMES. Company execs
said they will file a motion in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in
Tampa today "to liquidate the company or sell some or all of
the remaining stores." JumboSports President Mike Worrall:
"We're going out of business but have enough inventory to
get through Christmas. We have several expressions of
interest from other sporting goods companies that are
interested in buying groups of stores that are already in
operation." Albright: "The demise of JumboSports would end
a company founded in 1982, one of the pioneers of the
oversized sports goods superstore" (ST. PETE TIMES, 10/15).
